I opened Lantern Books in 2011 with 900 second-hand paperbacks, a borrowed till and a kettle. People told me a bookshop would not last a year on a street with no parking.

Fourteen years later we have 14,000 books, a children's corner with a reading tent, and a book club that has not missed a month, not even in the floods.

Every book on the front table has been read by one of us. Tell us the last book you loved and we will find you the next one. That is the whole job, and it is still the best one I know.
