14 Mill Lane, Ashwell. Step-free, with parking at the door.

  1. Someone has died at home. What do I do first?

Call their family doctor, or 111 at night, so a doctor can confirm the death. Then call us when you feel ready. There is no rush: we can come within the hour, day or night, or in the morning if you would like time together first.

  2. How much does a funeral cost?

A direct cremation, with no service, is $1,650. A funeral with a service, a hearse and our care from the first call starts at $3,450. You get a written quote before anything is agreed, and nothing is added later. See every price on one page

  3. Do we have to decide everything at once?

No. In the first conversation we ask only what is needed for the next few days. The rest can wait until you have talked as a family. Most families need two or three short meetings, at home or here.

  4. Can the funeral be non-religious, or very small?

Yes. We arrange church services, humanist and family-led farewells, in a crematorium, a garden or our own chapel. Some of the most moving funerals we have arranged had six people in the room.

  5. Can we spend time with them?

As often as you wish, in our quiet room on Mill Lane. Bring flowers, music or the children. Tell us when you are coming and everything will be ready.

  6. What if we cannot afford it?

Please tell us; it is a common worry and we will not judge. We can help you apply for the government's Funeral Expenses Payment, spread the cost over 12 months with no interest, or plan a simpler funeral that is no less caring.
