Sing Out Leeds · questions before your first Tuesday

But what if I can't read music?

Every one of our 212 members asked something like that before their first night. Four of them answer below; the singer at the front holds the question they once asked.

Do I need to read music?

No, and almost nobody here does. We learn every song by ear, a line at a time, and you get a recording to practice with in the car.

Soltenor, 17

What if I can't hold a tune?

I couldn't either. Stand between two strong voices and you will find the note by the second chorus. In a choir this big, nobody hears one voice.

Do I have to come every week?

No register, nothing paid in advance. Bring $4 when you come. I miss the odd week for the grandchildren and pick it straight back up.

Billbass, 81

Am I too old to start?

I started at 76 and I am still the loudest bass. Our members are 16 to 88, and we all have a cup of tea at half time.
