From brambles to Sunday lunch outside, in six weeks

Gouache painting of an overgrown back yard with a broken fence and a rusty wheelbarrow
March
The same garden in summer: a lawn, raised flower beds, a patio with a bench
August
  1. Week 1: clearingEleven bags of brambles out, the apple tree kept and pruned.
  2. Week 2 to 3: the bonesNew fence, a stone patio, three oak raised beds.
  3. Week 4 to 6: plantingRoses, salvias, runner beans and a lawn laid from turf.

We bought the house for the garden we imagined, not the one we got. Fern & Spade made the imagined one. The apple tree is still there; everything else is new.
