Roadside fixes

Fix a puncture in five steps.

No stand, no workshop. You need two tire levers, a spare tube and a mini pump, and about five minutes.

  1. 1

    Take the wheel out

Open the brake, flip the quick release, lift the frame.

  2. 2

    Lever off one side

Two levers, a hand's width apart. Never a screwdriver.

  3. 3

    Find the cause

Run your fingers slowly round inside the tire: thorns and glass hide there.

  4. 4

    Fit the new tube

A little air first so it holds its shape. Valve in first.

  5. 5

    Pump and check

Thumb the tire on, check the bead line, pump to the number on the sidewall.

Still flat? Bring it in: a new tube fitted while you wait, $12 plus the tube.
