The idea

let the pictures and one big word do the work. On soft off-white, "Journal" in very large, tightly set Schibsted Grotesk, a short line under it with "light" in rust, and the topics on the right as plain buttons to each category page ("All" filled in ink blue). Below a hairline, three picture cards in an even grid: the painting at 3:2, the category in small rust capitals with the reading time, the title, a two-line excerpt, the date and the photographer. Page numbers and an outline "Older posts" button close it. Only the button moves (it fills on hover).

Palette and fonts: off-white, white, near-black, ink blue, rust, warm grey · Schibsted Grotesk 600 to 800
